Rebecca A. Hertz

I was born and raised in South Florida and have actually lived here my whole life. I grew up in Broward County and moved to Palm Beach County as an adult. I have always been argumentative in nature, so when I told my parents I wanted to go to law school, they said they’d seen that coming since I was 7 years old. My parents continue to live in the same home they raised my sister and me in, in Pompano Beach.

While in law school, I spent a summer interning for a family law attorney. Although I have experienced working in different areas since, it feels right to come full circle and find myself in the family law arena once again.

Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my husband and our two dogs.

Education & Prior Affiliations

I received a double major from Florida Atlantic University in Communication Studies and Sociology. At FAU I joined the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and Phi Mu Women’s Fraternity. I had planned to minor in Sociology but loved it so much that it became a second major for me. When I took Sociology courses, I would often learn about the flaws in our institutions. I always found myself approaching the professor at the end of the course asking, “so how do we fix these problems?” Law school was the next logical step for me on my mission to make the world a better place.

While at Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law, I quickly realized a law degree would not supply me with the answers to right all the wrongs of our social institutions. I continued to work hard and was made the Dean’s List for four consecutive semesters. I also received the CALI Excellence Award, meaning I achieved the highest grade in the class, in Constitutional Law II (focusing solely on the First Amendment), and in Law, Finance and Markets Seminar, in which I wrote a research paper focusing on the food industry.

While in law school, in addition to my internship with a family law attorney, I participated in a judicial internship doing first appearance Magistrates’ Court in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court. I also had the honor of participating in the JM Family Internship Program which allowed me to work in the legal and compliance department of Southeast Toyota Finance. The subsequent semester I was enrolled in a Civil Field Placement Clinic, permitting me to continue interning at Southeast Toyota Finance in a full-time capacity for credit hours. In my six months there I am most proud of my efforts towards the passing of House Bill No. 431, effective January 1, 2020.

During my last semester of law school, I clerked at Cole, Scott & Kissane, P.A. After graduating law school and passing the Bar Exam, I began my legal career as an associate attorney with CSK where I was exposed to many areas of complex litigation including admiralty and maritime, employment and labor law, civil rights law, commercial litigation, hospital industry defense, professional malpractice, first party property, premise liability and vehicle negligence.

Ultimately, I went to law school to help people. While I was certainly helping people in my previous role, I was always looking to have a more meaningful and personal impact.  This is why I became a divorce lawyer.
